The Centre works in three directions:

  • Advanced research in the area of Computational Science, Cluster and Grid computing and corresponding collaborative environments facilitating virtual teams and organisations; e-Learning platforms and methodology; scalable numerical methods and algorithms for large-scale applications.
  • Advanced multi-disciplinary postgraduate courses for traditional and nontraditional learners based on mixed mode of delivery.
  • Entrepreneurial and reach-out activities based on the close collaboration with leading industrial partners, such as Intel and IBM.

The Centre collaborates on various research projects with universities across Europe as well as Daresbury Laboratory UK, Oak Ridge National Laboratory US, Intel, IBM, Procter and Gamble, AWE and various SMEs. These collaborations present great opportunities to individually tailor the MSc projects.

Application deadlines are usually 16 December for intakes in February the following year, and 30 June for the October intake the same year. The course structure is one semester of intensive modules (each of them one or two weeks long) and one semester (24 weeks) project placement in the university, other research institution or in the industry, completed with write up of the dissertation as an integral part. The modules are divided into core and stream subjects. The core modules contain the key technical and scientific knowledge and are taken by all of the streams. The stream modules are more specific and generally equip the students with the specific problemsolving methodology.
